Worked example
A sample weekly dinner plan with an ingredient map
This sample shows how seven dinner ideas can share ingredients without repeating the same meal every night. It is an illustrative planning exercise for a household, not a complete daily diet, a tested recipe collection or a personalised nutrition plan.

Use the structure as a starting point. Choose recipes and portions before calculating purchases.
What this example covers
The example covers dinners only and assumes the household can cook on the indicated days. It does not specify serving sizes, breakfast, lunch or snacks, and it makes no claim about calories, cost or nutritional completeness.
Check every ingredient against your household's needs. Chickpeas, eggs, wheat-based foods, dairy and other listed ingredients may be unsuitable for some people. Substitutions need a fresh review of the recipe and grocery quantities.
The seven-day dinner outline
This outline reuses ingredients, not a single cooked batch kept all week. Each cooking event needs its own recipe and quantities. Frozen vegetables are used later in the outline to avoid assuming that fresh produce will remain suitable until then.
| Day | Dinner idea | Ingredient connection |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Chickpea and pepper rice bowls | Rice, chickpeas, peppers |
| Tuesday | Tomato and spinach pasta | Spinach, tomatoes, pasta |
| Wednesday | Freshly cooked vegetable omelet | Remaining suitable spinach, eggs |
| Thursday | Baked potatoes with chickpea tomato topping | Potatoes, chickpeas, tomatoes |
| Friday | Rice with frozen vegetables and egg | Dry rice cooked for this meal, frozen vegetables, eggs |
| Saturday | Vegetable and bean soup | Beans, tomatoes, suitable vegetables |
| Sunday | Flexible dinner or a labelled freezer portion | Choose from current, safely stored stock |
Turn the outline into a shopping checklist
Pick recipes, decide who is eating and scale each cooking event. Only then total the ingredients. This list deliberately has no purchase quantities because the dinner ideas alone do not establish portions or yields.
- Produce: peppers, spinach, potatoes and any vegetables required by your chosen recipes.
- Pantry: dry rice, pasta, chickpeas, beans and tomatoes in the form the recipes require.
- Chilled and frozen: eggs and frozen vegetables, plus any recipe-specific ingredients.
- Check at home: oil, seasonings, suitable toppings and usable stock before buying.
Adapt the structure to your own week
Move cooking-intensive meals to evenings with enough time. Replace ingredients you cannot use, then check whether the substitution changes the method, quantity or nutrition estimate. Assign opened packages and any intentional extra portions to a specific later use.
In DietWings, use your actual household, available inventory and cooking schedule to generate a personal plan. Compare its shopping list with the chosen recipes rather than copying this unquantified checklist into a purchase order.
